Cyclotourists



Before there were purpose built off-road bikes with drop bars here in the USA, there were tourists grinding up the dirt and chip seal roadways of Europe on machines more than capable of handling rough conditions. Low trail, packable bikes were the non-pareil everyman's bike. Compared to the throwaway racing bikes of the Tour, these were lifetime bikes meant for exploring and making friends.  In my opinion, fun and camaraderie are the best parts of cycling.  Read the article Jan Heine wrote about tourists for the Rivendell Reader in the fall of 2004 below.
